Valley View Ward

My ward is normal. It is what a normal singles ward would be. Kids who grew up with each other, and have known each other their whole lives, and are just going to the ward because they are single and of age, and they get to spend a few hours with their friends in a church environment.

I like to make fun of the ward, call it the awkward ward. Sometimes I post things people say and hash tag it awkwardwardquotes. However, it is not that the ward is awkward, it is just not something I am used to.

Going to BYU for 4 years made me comfortable in wards where no one knew each other, and everyone had to build friendships from scratch. This isn't the case in this ward, the friendships are already there. I feel like an outsider almost.

I try to make friends, but how can you make friends with people who have known each other their entire lives, who went to the same elementary school, and who all have the same two last names Neff and Brinton, and somehow everyone is related to them.

It is just weird.

Needless to say I haven't made any new friends from the ward, acquaintances yes, but friends no. It is the worst when they are like we have to hang out, every single Sunday, and yet nothing comes out of it. I kinda wish they weren't so nice so that I could be at least a little mad at them.

I guess this is kind of the way it would be if I moved anywhere other than near a college, or back home to Miami. Just a ward outsider.
